Quito... mucho gusto
I could get used to this. Quito has very quickly established a space in my soul. Linda and I flew in last night around 9 and watched the sun fall as we dipped back under the clouds. I might add the clouds of Ecuador are surreal. I watched a lightning storm in a giant billowing cloud as the sky turned the brightest orange I have ever seen behind it! We have been staying at the Backpackers Hostel in the area of Mariscal. The first night we met Tim from Holland. He showed us around and unleashed all of Quitos deepest darkest secrets. We love Mariscal because it is so alive and every opportunity is available, however the rich history and fascinating culture of Ecador is found in Old Town, no doubt. Today we must have walked 8 miles, but we covered some territory that´s for sure! The most impressive place that we visited in my opinion was the Basilica Del Voto Nacional. This place was a monster cathedral, larger than I have ever seen! And we also went to the Cultural de Municipal and saw some art that blew our mind, particularly the old man. El esta no verdaderno! Looks real though...pretty crazy. This time of year I was expecting to be very cold in Quito and rainy. But it was in the 70´s and never rained all day! What an amazing first day walking the streets of Quito. Tomarrow we plan to visit the large angel statue on the hill you may notice in a few of my fotos. It is called Penecillo! And then we will venture to the middle of the earth and possibly eat some guinea pig in a small town nearby... Que bueno! I love you all.
